"I met Masako when I was pregnant with my first in a prenatal yoga class years ago. It was my first experience with yoga and I could not have imagined then the whole life benefit it would have. I had taken yoga at the gym and it never felt right. It had me moving around a lot and I felt like I couldn’t keep up. The yoga Masako brought into my life was different. It was good for my body, mind, and soul. I’m so happy OMZ is here to spread the joy and peace therapeutic yoga has to offer. It’s the kind of thing you can talk about but really need to experience to understand. Each teacher there leads a class as a whole yet tailors to each student individually to make sure you are comfortable in poses, breathing, and achieving any goals you might have. Their training and experience is evident in every moment. If you have a certain ache or pain or even an on-going injury they work with you to work through it or around it. My personal struggle has always been anxiety and this kind of yoga has taught me to create calm and quiet in my mind. For brief moments I can escape it all and just be. Physically I find that I do feel more grounded and have gained more core strength. They always say these 90 minutes are just for you and they mean it. I finally understand that yoga really is a journey and I’m glad to share it with OMZ."
"I have been practicing yoga intermittently over the past 12 years. I practice yoga because, quite simply, I just feel better when I do. My mind is clearer, my body is stronger, and I stand taller. I have learned poses to help with anxiety and stress. I have received help conquering shoulder, neck and back pain. I have learned breathing techniques through yoga that support my Christian practice of centering prayer. And as a woman with osteopenia, yoga helps my bone health.
All of the instructors at OMZ (Masako, Audrey, Heidi, and Christina) are experts in the field of yoga. The classes are personalized and the instruction is thorough. Because the instructors pay such close attention to each student, I never worry about getting hurt. The instructors guide each student to work at his/her own ability. Although I could do yoga at home by myself, I prefer working in a group atmosphere. The instructors challenge me (in ways I would not do myself) and yet I never feel pressured. All of this is done in an encouraging, supportive and non judgmental environment. The instructors’ passion for yoga is obvious and motivates me. I am so thankful to have Masako, Audrey, Christina, and Heidi to guide my practice here at OMZ."
“My yoga journey began about four years ago. Recently retired and dealing with a tragic loss in the family, I was at a stand still. My daughter, who lives in Seattle, is a yoga instructor and she kept encouraging me to give yoga a try. I finally decided that maybe she was right (don’t tell her I said that!) So I located a studio, and it was there that I learned about Iyengar yoga and all the benefits it offers. After the first few sessions, I was hooked. I found the focus on the poses and trying to get it right was actually relaxing.
OMZ Yoga is a wonderful yoga studio. Masako, Audrey, Heidi and Christina are all excellent instructors. All have their own style, but all have the knowledge and patience needed when it comes to working with students. Every class they tell you “it is you and your mat” and it truly is. There is no competition, just great instruction and well-led classes.
I have found that yoga relaxes me, challenges me and energizes me all at the same time. I am thrilled that I have found yoga. I only have one regret and that is; that I did not begin studying yoga at a much younger age.”
